Clothes to Hide Your Pregnancy Bump
If you just found out you’re expecting, congratulations! Now you’re facing your first big decision: when to tell people you’re pregnant. The traditional waiting time is 12 weeks, but most people tell close friends and family before then. And some people can’t resist posting a photo of their positive pregnancy test on Facebook the minute they see two lines.
If you decide to take your time to share the good news — and you don’t want anyone to guess you’re pregnant — you’ll want to wear maternity clothes that don’t reveal your baby bump. Here are some ways to hide your bump in early pregnancy:
Flowing maternity tops: Look for those with a snug-fitting bodice (because you want to show that off, right?) that’s loose around your stomach.
Low-belly maternity pants: These look like regular pants, but with a hidden stretchy waist. You can wear them comfortably throughout early pregnancy and well into the second trimester. (Once your bump’s big enough that it’s impossible to hide, you’ll want to buy some full-belly pants.)
Long maternity cardigans: Long cardigans that tie in front are great for camouflaging your belly, and they’re flattering too. Look for maternity cardigans with ruffles or other details in the front.
Babydoll or empire-waist maternity dresses: Any maternity dress with a high waist and flowing skirt will do a lot to hide your bump. Early on, you may be able to wear structured dresses too, such as shift or A-line styles.
Enjoy the time when only you and your loved ones know you’re pregnant! Soon it won’t be a secret anymore.

We’ve talked about bad baby shower gifts before — “Goodnight Moon,” anyone? So what should you buy for an expectant mama? Here are a few brilliant baby shower gift ideas that really work: A grocery store gift card. So simple, but so appreciated. While onesies and teddy bears are cute, a grocery store card is a great [...]

Summer will be here before you know it, and that means you need to buy some maternity shorts. When I was pregnant, I put off buying these as long as I could. The whole idea of wearing shorts under a big belly seemed weird and uncomfortable. Instead, I just bought larger and larger non-maternity shorts [...]

Here in Richmond, Virginia, where eMommie is headquartered, we’ve been waiting a looong time for spring. It even snowed the last week of March. With bare-leg temperatures on the way — at last! — we’ve been getting excited about new spring styles. Want a fresh, breezy look without spending a lot? You need these cheap [...]

When I first shopped online for maternity clothes, I had no idea what size to order. Most retailers say to order the same size you wore before you got pregnant. So that’s what I did, and it worked fine. Until the third trimester, that is. Then the sizes I was used to wearing began to [...]

I got a huge kick out of watching my belly button go from an innie to an outie in the second trimester of pregnancy. One day it just went pop, like the little plastic indicator on a roast turkey. The dilemma: Do you hide your pregnant belly button or show it off proudly? Through your clothes, [...]

The best part of your post-pregnancy body: your new boobs. You’ll probably go up a cup size. Or two! The worst part: Sexy nursing bras are hard to find. Most nursing bras are ugly, multi-strap contraptions that are designed for full coverage and easy nursing access. Not for making you feel cute. And good luck [...]

Being pregnant in the heat of summer is tough, any mom will tell you. But being pregnant in winter presents its own challenges. You want to keep your bump well wrapped up, but your hormones are sending your internal thermostat sky-high. When I was eight months pregnant in October, I would go out in short [...]
The 2013 flu season is a nasty one, we’re hearing. I have a friend who’s in her third trimester now, and she’s not going to get a flu shot, she says. The idea of getting a vaccine late in pregnancy frightens her. I understand her fear. When you’re pregnant, you have to be so careful [...]

Making a resolution for the new year when you’re pregnant may seem futile. Your body and your life are changing so fast that it’s tough to know what next week will look like, let alone the whole year. The one thing you know is that you’re certainly not going to lose weight! Here’s a good [...]

The day you come home from the maternity ward may be the least fashionable day of your life. You’re sore. You’re tired. You forgot to bring your hair dryer to the hospital. And, of course, you still look five or six months pregnant. Surprise! I wore the uniform of most brand-new moms: yoga pants. They’re [...]
